Once your window is clean and ready for film, it's time to orient the film on the glass and cut any excess film to size.
Our film kits provide two pieces of film cut to size to fit a range of window sizes for each window type (get help determining your window type). Each piece of film is designed for one piece of glass or "sash". Below are the film dimensions for each kit type:
Window Type | Width | Height |
Single or Double Hung Kit | 36" | 30" |
Casement/Sliding Kit | 20" | 60" |
Patio Door Kit | 36" | 76" |
Please note that you can orient the film either way - for example if your double hung sashes are 28" wide and 32" high, you can use the film in that orientation as well.
The pieces of film will be larger than the glass on your window. Put the film up to the glass if there is about a 1" overlap on all four sides of the film, you don't need to do any trimming and can move to the next step.
If the piece of film is larger, then place it on the window covering the glass where there is at least a 1” overlap space on the top and left edges. Holding the film in place, make a mark on the right and bottom edges of the film with the yellow film marker about 1” beyond the glass edge. This will be where you will trim the film.
On your clean, flat surface, use the box as a straight edge to draw lines with the yellow marker to mark your scissor cut lines. The marked film size should provide you with a piece of film that has a 1” overlapping border to the glass edge for each of the four sides.
With a pair of scissors, cut the film to size along the straight cut lines.
